Bilingual Director of Communications

Imagination Machine is a brand-new startup accelerator in Nantes. We are seeking a bilingual (French/English) Director of Communications to join the founding team of three people. You will be responsible for telling the stories that connect people with our mission and the startups we accelerate.

Imagination Machine will hold competitions twice per year to find the world’s most promising startups for our 3-month acceleration program. We are looking for technology startups in any sector that embody the key attributes of l’esprit nantais: imagination, community, sustainability & culture.

Our goal is to attract hundreds of excellent applications in each round. You will be responsible for reaching that goal by inspiring people with our story, marketing our special city of Nantes, and building a long-lasting community around Imagination Machine. You will draft public announcements and create awareness campaigns, write press communications, place high-impact stories in key media outlets and manage all our social media channels.

Once we select the batch of startups, our 3-month acceleration program will be an intense working period to help them design their products, build their community of customers, raise new investment funds and prepare to grow their teams. You will work with each of the startups to craft communications strategies to tell the world about their products. At the end of the 3 months you will organize a high-energy event to launch all of the startups to the public.

The Imagination Machine is hosted by La Cantine, a dynamic and vibrant space in the Quartier de la Création, the heart of the Nantes startup ecosystem. You will work directly with the Director of the Imagination Machine. You must be a self-starter who is comfortable working independently, flexible, open-minded, and interested in technology. Most importantly, you must have a positive attitude.

Responsibilities:

  • Create a comprehensive communications strategy that crafts our story, identifies our audience, and defines the tactics (across press / social / events / etc.) that we’ll use to achieve our goals.

  • Help create a similar communications strategy for each of the startups in our accelerator, as needed.

  • Develop strong relationships with media across Europe to get high-impact coverage about our accelerator and the startups in our program.

  • Develop strong relationships with engineering, design & business schools across Europe to spread the word about our accelerator.

  • Manage all social media channels, including all content creation & communication with our community.

  • Work with external creative agencies & contractors to produce great designs / videos / etc. for our marketing and awareness campaigns. Help to do the same for the startups in our accelerator, as needed.

  • Organize events for the community of supporters we have in Nantes.

Requirements:

  • Kind person with a creative spirit :-)

  • Sense of humor.

  • Excellent writer in French and English. Strong abilities in the 3rd European language are a bonus. Please send writing samples with your application!

  • Experience creating & executing a comprehensive communications strategy across multiple channels.

  • Experience organizing events.

  • An interest in the tech industry.

  • Extremely comfortable sending lots of emails/messages every day.

  • Able to plan, organize & prioritize simultaneous projects and activities.

  • Recruit & schedule participants for weekly user-testing studies in our office.

  • Keep track of all expenses for the accelerator.

Requirements:

  • An interest in the tech industry.

  • Extremely high attention to detail. Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask.
